Petr Hemsky: Our goal is winning a medal

The final selection wasn’t easy at all. The coaches had to consider a lot of other things because of the tournament term. „At first, the ice-hockey championships ended just a week ago and for example Petr Zamorsky simply can’t arrive after so long season. There are som other players from Czech Extraliga, who have camps with their teams, or the clubs wouldn’t let them.“ Hemsky explained.

Despite these facts, there are plenty of well-known names in final nomination. Talking about a goalie veteran Dusan Salficky, who finished his career not so long ago or Jan Buchtele, who transformed into a leader in Sparta during last season’s campaign. „I would like to thank the clubs, who let their players to play here. Especially Sparta, Jihlava and Mlada Boleslav,“ head coach says. However Hemsky would also like to use some true inline hockey players as well, no matter of what age.

„I think the team is well selected. We have some experienced players but also some young ones, who played at the juniors championships,“ he explains. The Czech junior team managed to get a gold medal in every one of last five tournaments of FIRS, so there is a no doubt about bright future for the seniors as well. „The youngsters will get their space. It’s a challenge for them,“ Czech coach says.

There will be five champions from 2011 playing in Pardubice’s CEZ Arena during the tournament. The Czechs got through whole championships unbeaten back then and seized the title. They are among the hot aspirants for the crown this year as well. „Last time, we set the bar really high. We want to go step by step and game by game because it won’t be an easy group for us. However, we’re certainly going for the gold,“ Hemsky knows.

The hosting team will be also relying on a great atmosphere, which is typical for the Eastern Bohemian region. Therefore Petr Hemsky would like to invite them all: „We would certainly appreciate, if the fans create us such a good atmosphere like last time. We will try to reward them with a success.“
