Even game goes to Canada for persistance

It was predicted as an even game and both teams proved it as a fact. Germany scored on an early power play, but Thomas Woods replied right after. After a goal-less second period, the Canadians scored took the lead in the third and protected it the rest of the way. Chris Terry then put a stamp on the win in the final minute.

Game report

The Germans got an opportunity with a powerplay and took it without hesitation as Marco Pfleger broke the deadlock after just five minutes. However, the Canadians didn’t wait for anything and equalized immediately. It was Thomas Woods who sent puck into net from top of the circles.

Later on in the first period, two Germans outnumbered their opponent while having a delayed penalty for goaltender interference on Ower. However, they didn’t hit the target from that one.

In the second quarter both teams held it even. Chris Terry got into a breakaway after well-read missed pass from the Germans, but he lost it while making a move on Ower.

Both teams then played one powerplay each, but none of the players managed to grab the lead.

After the halfime break, Leggat had to show his glove skills against Sekesi, who tried his luck from a good position. On the other side, the Canadians scored, but the referees disallowed it for an early whistle. Either Ower had it or they lost sight of it, but the whistle was there and it meant no goal for Canada.

Anyway, the North Americans kept on pushing and they were payed back. Josh Foote fired it home to send his side in front again.

Bad start into the final part from Germany resulted into a powerplay for Canada. The Canadians scored with two seconds left from Sekesi’s penalty, but since one them was in the crease, this one was also waved off.

In the ending, it was Ower who held the hope for his teammates, but even he was no use against Chris Terry’s finish between German’s legs inside the last minute. The Europeans pulled Ower out for the rest of the game, but Leggat didn’t let another one in.

Reactions

Jason Stephens (Canada): The Germans played great game against us, they held their positions and they were very patient. We knew that they want to be better every year and their proved it again. They were well-prepared. Germany’s style is unique and that what makes them top team. We’re glad for winning this one, because our opponent fought well for equalizer whole time. The third goal was very important and probably decided.

Georg Holzmann (Germany): I have a good feelings about the game. We played well in defense and against one of the best teams in the world. We had many chances to win it, which is positive, but we couldn’t capitalize on them. I blame myself for the third Canadian goal, which might have decided. I tried to substitute our defensemen for more offensive players in a bad moment. I missed it and Canada took advantage of it. We have to make more pressure on the goal in next games and try to shoot more. Then we can score more as well.
