Austrians started this game with a great effort and they were rewarded by a power play goal after only 33 seconds. Sancovojs´s penalty was punished by Patrick Spannring. Austrians continued with controlling the game and Gruber had another good opportunity to score. Latvians could find an answer in their own power play, but the opponent killed Macierzynski´s minor penalty. And when Lange against the Latvian goalie and on the other side Vasilonoks against Hirn did not convert their opportunities to score, everyone was expecting that Austrians will hold only one-goal lead till the main break. However, Austrians weren´t satisfied with it and made it double after Schweda´s goal.

Baltic players checked in the 30th minute. Janis Bullitis did not rush, aimed exactly behind the upper bar and scored! Latvians put all their powers into the offensive and it paid off itself. Ogorodnikovs passed into the 2nd wave on Batraks who didn´t miss. And the very same player even sent his team into a leading and suddenly, it was Austrians who had to try to score. Seven seconds before the end, Gruber sent the game to the overtime.

Both teams played it carefully, no one wanted to be the one who made the final mistake. So the time brought another quarter-final´ shoot-out. Batraks proved his qualities and opened this score. Spannring checked and made it tied. The decision came from the stick of Begovs who completed the turnover.
