Comfort win for Slovaks as they ran over the Great Britain

Slovakia took control over the game in the beginning and early scored some goals to make it clear. Even though they had a little bit silent second half, they added two more goals in the end and leaving no questions at all.

Game report

The Slovaks started with a pace and early they turned into goals. Miroslav Preisinger scored after nice breaktrough by Simunek and sent his team in front. The British were under pressure and soon, they conceded another one.

Jakub Ruckay sent the puck behind Birch with a great shot from the circles leaving British goalie nothing to do about it. The Slovaks were enjoying themselves and added more goals after the intermission. At first, it was Andrej Mrazik caught opponent’s defense half asleep and then Lukas Ruzicka took advantage of a brilliant assist by Simunek.

Soon, Juraj Prokop scored the fifth one and it seemed like an exhibiton game but the British managed to answer that one. James Archer decreased the gap with a nice goal right before the halftime.

The Great Britain got into pace which resulted into a goalless third quarter, despite Hamer’s opportunity, when the British player appeared alone in front of Neumann. He missed the goal completely.

Slovakia was comforted with the lead and tried to control the game in the final period, which its players pretty much did. Finney had the only chance of the British, but missed it just as Hamer before.

Right in the end, the Slovaks managed to score two more and made it clear. Miroslav Preisinger scored his second one with a nice solo drive across the whole rink and then Filip Novak undercut it from a great pass by Holovic.

Simon Hehir (Great Britain): text

I think we played pretty well. We had a good move, but we didn´t shoot goals. In the next matches we have to avoid silly mistakes, and I think if we do that, it should be all right.

Imrich Antal (Slovakia): text

I’m satisfied with the result, yet there were some deaf spots in the game, mainly before and after they scored. We will certainly watch the game between the United States and the Czech Republic and we’ll adapt. We’re going to defend, there is no reason to haste. I admire the Finnish in the second group. They play good hockey offensively and they move great after losses. I’d mention Neumann and Jasko, who had a great game.
