Comfort win for Hungary relegates the Japanese

It was a full-game one side show by Hungary, which scored twelve goals and proved their role. On the other side, Japan didn’t manage its defense, conceded some goals while playing a powerplay and can’t be suprised with the final harsh result.

Game report

First few minutes showed an importance of powerplays. Both teams were offered one and both took advantage of it. Firstly Akos Kiss sent Hungary in front, then Gentaro Tsuchimoto equalized with a shot into top left corner.

Hungary managed to get its lead back thanks to Istvan Bartalis, who benefited from Pal’s great pass and right after the intermission, they score twice more. Goalie Kiss‘ long pass sent Bartalis with Arnold Feil into a 2-on-1 situation which ended with a goal. Few seconds later Attila Rafaj made it 4:1 after another quick counterattack.

Just before the halftime, Attila Rafaj scored his second one from right circle and Hungary was safely ahead. For more, the third quarter copied the second one in the matter of goals. Istvan Bartalis took advantage of a powerplay right after the break and Balazs Bartalis‘ upcoming goal was a seventh one in Japanese net already.

Just like in the second period, even now the Hungarians added one more in the last minute of it. Artyom Vaszjunyin scored from a breakaway while shorthaned, which was a top of an iceberg of Japanese frustration.

When Arnold Feil scored another shorthanded goal with less than ten minutes to go, it was really more about the scoreline. Japan answered two minutes later when Gentaro Nischinaga slapped in Osawa’s pass, but then the Hungarians took the control again.

The Japanese struggled with their powerplays and were close to ceoncede another one by a shorthanded opponent. Orban was fouled and took a penalty shot but he missed the target. However, the tenth goal came anyway when Attila Rafaj finished a precise combination with his hattrick goal.

Zoltan Revak and Artyom Vaszjunyin added two more in the end, but there was really no importance of those.

Reactions

Miroslav Vybiral (Hungary): We were responsible today. I still can’t get why we don’t play like this every time. We can do it, we showed it today. We should defeat the opponents in this division by a level difference. I’m dissapointed about the result on this tournament.

Kan Nakajima (Japan): It’s bad we didn’t handle this tournament better. We played some good games, but we failed in the key ones. Once you make a mistake and you drag it whole tournament behind. That’s what happened to us.
