Czechs say goodbye to home championship with a win over Great Britain

A battle of disappointed quarter-finalists ended with a persuasive win for the home team. Czechs showed significantly higher quality than their opponent and sent him to battles for staying in the top group.

Game report

Czechs went for the win with confidence but the opening score had to wait. Both teams had successfully killed their penalty and up in the 11th minute, Petr Senkerik opened the score. Czech Republic got more persuasive in the shooting and added 3 more goals. Kubica, Vozdecky and Cik wrote down their names into the list of the scorers, and the goals were in a short interval – only 1 minute and 13 seconds. Than British called a time out to calm down and interrupt the Czech storm.

However, they were able only to slow it down, because the score changed again in the 28th minute by Sebek and then in 37th minute thanks to Simo. Brabec in the Czech net eventually did not make a shoot-out, because a honorary goal was scored by British Nathan Finney.

Reactions

Petr Hemský (Czech Republic): It was difficult to motivate the team after the disappointment in quarter final. After we scored some goals we controlled the game. The expectation was high this year because last time we won gold here. Obviously we wanted to repeat the success, yet it was not to be this year.

There is no scheduled game.
