Swedes humiliate Slovaks with 12 goals to secure semis
The result of the quarter-final between Sweden and Slovakia was certainly something unexpected. Sweden scored 12 times and conceded only one goal, which made it a clearly one-sided game. By the end, it was only about how big the goal difference would be.
Penalties: 3:3, plus Gunnarsson (SWE), Mrazik (SVK) misconduct. PP goals: 3:0. SH goals: 0:0.
Referees: Aumueller (GER), Morrison (USA). Attendance: 200.

Game report
Three Swedish goals inside first four minutes, that was a total nightmare for the Slovaks. At first, Marcus Nillson finished his breakthrough with a nice deke and backhand shot. Few seconds later, the same player Marcus Nillson took advantage of the first powerplay for Sweden and scored after a precise passing play and then in fourth minute, Dick Axellson made it three to nothing as the Slovaks couldn’t still believe what’s happening.
For more, the Scandinavians scored two more in the first period. Filip Gunnarsson hit a wide open net with a shot from the second wave and two minutes later, he – Filip Gunnarsson – managed to add one more with a nice shot from between the circles.
Slovakia tried to start a whole new game after the break and Jakub Ruckay scored out of 2-on-1 breakaway, but the Swedes held it firmly and wouldn’t let it go. Soon, Emil Bejmo snapped it just beneath the bar to make it by five again. Robin Sjören‘s one-timer than meant a seventh goal in Slovak net already, this time from a powerplay.
The Swedes were on a streak and kept going. Carl Berglund found a puck in a scrum and tapped it in. Another goal was scored by Johan Lilja whose snap shot went in just next to the post.
In the last quarter, it was just a question of how many really. Andreas Svensson closed the first ten with an easy-looking play. Marcus Nillson then finished his hattrick with an accurate wrist shot into top corner and added one more – Marcus Nillson – one more from a 2-on-goalie breakaway with Wall.
Reactions
Björn Östlund (Sweden): I’m very glad for a win like this. We started brilliantly and scored five times in first quarter already. We have to focus on our semifinals immediately, because it will be really hard after such a clear victory. We’ll stay here in arena for today so we can watch the other games and know what is waiting for us.
Imrich Antal (Slovakia): We told ourselves something in the dressing room, but we completely missed the begining. When it was 5:0, we all knew there isn’t much to do about it. Then it went on and on and we couldn’t stop it, there was noone in our team to make the difference. I’m sorry about that, because I thought we could match the Swedes. We had three pretty good games in our group and we hoped to play another one today.
